BlackTwinCities.comOne chilly March day in 2010 I was craving soul food…fried chicken, baked macaroni and cheese and collard greens, to be specific. What I didn’t know was that my quest would turn up a very short list of restaurants that had long been closed.

An extensive search of Facebook led me to a group page for a catering-company-turned-restaurant located in Uptown. Eager to indulge in a meal reminiscent of my childhood, I couldn’t get into my car fast enough.

The food was amazing, so much so that I ate there twice in one week…but as I remembered what it took to get me there, I asked myself an important question…

WHY WAS THIS SO DAMNED HARD??

From this quest for soul food, Black Twin Cities was born.
Gaining over 1200 Facebook fans in the first four weeks, BTC is meeting a need that many have identified, but have not been able to fulfill in such a comprehensive, convenient and affordable format.

With comments like the following, I know Black Twin Cities is on the right track:

“This was needed.”
“Wow! Well executed page. So far what I have learned is great, I’m going to make sure to stop back weekly if not daily.”

Because Black Twin Cities was built on the premise of promoting small Black-owned business, I thought it fitting to dedicate the entire first issue (of our magazine) to growing those same businesses.

I’m thankful that our community has received the Black Twin Cities website and Facebook fan page so well, I hope the magazine entertains and informs you. I look forward to publishing many more.
